Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

The publication processes of Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials are based on the production, development and sharing of information impartially using the scientific method.
Refereed articles are studies that ensure the application of the scientific method and impartiality. All components of the publication process in the realization of scientific production; The publisher, editors, authors, referees and readers must comply with ethical principles. In this context, the publication ethics and open access policy of Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials are in line with the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Council of Science Editors (CSE) in open access (for example, “Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” and “COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors”) require all components of the publication process to comply with ethical principles.
If situations such as manipulation, distortion and use of fabricated data of the data used in the articles are detected, this situation will be notified officially to the institution where the article author works and the article will be rejected. Our journal has the right to request output files of the analysis results from the authors, based on the feedback given by the editor and/or referees.

 

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PUBLISHER

Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials is an open-access international peer-reviewed journal published electronically in the fields of Engineering and Science 2 times a year in June and December under the management of the editorial team since September 2022.

The Editorial Team of Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials consists of academics who are experts in their fields from various universities. Editorial Team members are appointed by considering the departments of science and engineering sciences, and the members are appointed according to the editors-in-chief and editorial team members' own requests. The heads of the Editorial Team and, depending on the situation, one or more deputy editors-in-chief and section editors are determined. A new member is appointed to replace the departed member. 

Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials takes all necessary measures to clarify a situation regarding any article, to make changes to that article, or to allege or prove that the work involves any scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication, plagiarism, or close collaboration with the editors. Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials , together with the editors, will take appropriate steps to prevent publication of the article in which any abuse occurs and will not under any circumstances permit such abuse or knowingly allow such abuse to occur. Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials is responsible for responding to any claims or doubts raised by readers, reviewers or other editors. In such a case, the relevant article is evaluated by the journal and necessary explanations are made.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD

The Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials Editorial Board is responsible for every article applied to the Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials, and even for all processes after its publication, and the Editorial Board knows this responsibility. This responsibility includes considering only the public interest in decisions made on issues related to the journal; It requires making decisions independently, without considering personal gain. The relationship between the publisher and the Editorial Board is based on the principle of independence; all decisions taken by the editors are independent of the publisher and other persons and organizations.

The Editorial Board strives to constantly improve the Journal and increase the quality of its publication. It also ensures the determination and implementation of journal policies such as publication, blind refereeing, evaluation process, and ethical principles. The Editorial Board protects the copyright of the authors of articles published in Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials and is responsible for taking measures regarding intellectual property rights, unscientific-unethical behavior, plagiarism, and citation racket during the article and journal publication process. The Editorial Board prepares a "Writing Rules" containing the information requirements of the author(s) and a "Referee evaluation guide" containing the information that the referees will need during the evaluation phase, and updates it when necessary. The Editorial Board determines policies that motivate referees and author(s) and keeps the records of each article and correspondence related to the journal electronically.

 

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDITORS AND FIELD EDITORS

Chief editor(s) and field editors strive to meet the information needs of referees, author(s), researchers, practitioners and readers, to provide feedback when necessary, and to act in accordance with the principles of openness on issues that require corrections and clarifications during the publication process. When deciding on the publication of articles, the chief editor(s) and field editors take care to ensure that the articles are original and contribute to the scientific literature, readers, researchers and practitioners. When making positive or negative decisions about articles, editor-in-chief/s and field editors take into account the original value of the articles, their contribution to the field, the validity and reliability of the research method, the clarity of expression, and the purpose and scope of the journal. The chief editor(s) and field editors take the submitted articles to the preliminary evaluation stage as long as there are no significant problems, take into account the positive referee suggestions, and do not change the decisions made by the previous chief editor(s) and field editors unless there are serious problems. The chief editor(s) and field editors apply the blind referee and evaluation process policies that are among the journal's publication policies, keep the identity information of the referees confidential, and ensure that each article is evaluated impartially and within the time limit. The editor-in-chief/s select the field editors of the articles, and the field editors select the referees, taking into account their areas of expertise, and support unbiased and independent evaluations.
The chief editor(s) and section editors consider whether there is a conflict of interest or community of interest between the editors, referees and author(s) for an unbiased evaluation of the article. Editor-in-Chief/s and field editors seek to ensure that the referee pool consists of a wide range and is constantly updated. The editor-in-chief/s and field editors prevent reviews that do not comply with academic etiquette and are not scientific. Chief editor(s) and field editors ensure that the journal publication processes are carried out in accordance with the publication policies and guidelines, inform those in charge of the developments in publication policies during the process, and prepare training programs when necessary. The editor-in-chief and field editors communicate effectively with everyone involved in the publication process and hold meetings at regular intervals. Editor-in-chief/s and field editors ensure the protection of personal data in the articles being evaluated; They protect the individual data of authors, referees and readers. Chief editor(s) and field editors; They pay attention to the protection of human and animal rights in articles, they care about documenting the explicit consent of the participants of the article, and they reject the article when the participants of the article do not have ethics committee approval or permission for experimental research. Chief editor(s) and field editors; They take precautions against abuse of power. When there are complaints about abuse of power, it conducts an objective investigation and shares the relevant findings. The editor-in-chief/s and field editors ensure that errors, inconsistencies or misdirections in the articles are corrected. Editor-in-chief and field editors protect the intellectual property rights of published articles and defend the rights of the journal and the author(s) in case of infringement. They also take the necessary precautions to ensure that the content of the published articles does not violate the intellectual property rights of other publications; They check the originality and similarity. The chief editor(s) and field editors take into account consistent criticisms of the articles published in the journal and give the author(s) of the criticized articles the right to respond. Editor-in-chief/s and field editors also consider studies containing negative results. The chief editor(s) and field editors review the complaints submitted to the journal and make the necessary explanations.
Chief editor(s) and field editors cannot be appointed as work editors for articles written by themselves, their family members, or their colleagues in the department they belong to, and cannot make any decisions about the work. For such works, the normal operating process of the journal is carried out by a different editor who does not have a conflict of interest, and the process continues without the editor with a conflict of interest being included in the evaluation process in the journal.

 

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF REFEREES

Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials (NANOSAM) is a single-blind (only the reviewers are anonymous) peer-review journal. Reviewer selection for each submitted article is up to associate editors (section editors), and reviewers are selected based on the reviewer’s expertise, competence, and previous experience in reviewing papers for NANOSAM. The reviewer cannot communicate directly with the authors. Article evaluation forms, notes on the text and correction requests are forwarded to the author(s) by the editors through the journal management system.

Every submitted article is first evaluated by editor in cheif, at least, for an initial review. If the paper reaches minimum quality criteria, fulfills the aims, scope and policies of NANOSAM, it is assigned to one of the section editors who has similar keywords. After that the section editor sent to at least two reviewers for evaluation. The reviewers evaluate the paper according to the Review guidelines set by editorial board members and return it to the section editor, who conveys the reviewers' anonymous comments and his/her decision to the editor in cheif. The editor in cheif sent the desicion of the manuscript to the authors based on section editors suggestion and reviewers comments.

Referees who will evaluate the articles applied to Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials must bear the following ethical responsibilities. Referees must agree to evaluate only articles related to their field of expertise. Referees must make the evaluation impartially and confidentially. In accordance with this principle, they should destroy the articles they review after the evaluation process and use them only after they are published. Nationality, gender, religious belief, political belief and commercial concerns should not impair the impartiality of the evaluation. When referees realize that there is a conflict of interest, they should refuse to evaluate the article and inform the editors. Referees should make the evaluation in a constructive manner, in accordance with academic etiquette; Personal comments containing insults and hostility should be avoided. Referees must evaluate the article they have accepted to evaluate within the required time.

 

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS

Author(s) who submit articles to Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials must bear the following ethical responsibilities.
Author(s) should not submit an article that they have published or submitted for publication elsewhere, or more than one article at the same time, to Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials. Author(s) must submit an original article to Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials. The author(s) must correctly cite the sources they use while writing the article, in line with ethical principles. The names of people who do not contribute to the article should not be written as authors, and changing the author order of an article applied for publication, removing or adding authors should not be recommended. Persons who have a conflict of interest regarding the article applied for publication should be notified to the editors. If information or raw data regarding their articles is requested from the author(s) during the evaluation process, they must provide the expected information to the Editors. Author(s) must document that they have obtained the rights to use the data they use in their articles, permissions for research and analysis, or the approval of the participants on whom they conducted research. When the author(s) notice an error in their article, which is in the review and early appearance phase or has been published electronically, they must contact the editor to inform, correct or withdraw. The author(s) have received ethics committee approval for research that requires data collection through quantitative or qualitative methods such as experiments, surveys, scales, interviews, observations, focus group studies, which require ethics committee decision; The name of the ethics committee, decision date and number should be stated in the Materials and Methods section of the candidate article, and the document showing the ethics committee decision should be uploaded to the system together with the application of the article. In addition, in case reports, information regarding the receipt of informed consent/consent form should be included in the article. The author(s) must present evidence in the article that they have paid attention to ethical principles during the data collection process (such as obtaining permission from others to use their documents such as scales, surveys, photographs). It should be stated that articles comply with research and publication ethics and copyright regulations for intellectual and artistic works. If the research was conducted on human and animal subjects, it should be stated that the research was carried out in accordance with international declarations, guidelines, etc. Ethics committee approval is not required from the author(s) for review articles. However, in articles that do not require an ethics committee decision, it should be stated in the Materials and Methods section of the article that an ethics committee decision is not required.

 
ORIGINALITY AND PLAGIARISM POLICY

To check a submission’s originality, Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials uses iThenticate software for every submitted manuscript. Before the submission process, it is highly recommended to the authors use either Turnitin or iThenticate software for plagiarism detection. Editors make the first decision on a manuscript according to the plagiarism reports. Authors might be asked to edit their manuscripts or manuscripts might be terminated from the process. If the similarity index (SI) of the article is above 20%, excluding the material-method and reference sections, it is sent back to the corresponding author to be reduced below 20%. If plagiarism is proven after publication of the relevant article, the article will be immediately retracted and removed from the website. In such a case, the relevant authors' articles will be deemed unsuitable for publication in Journal of NanoScience in Advanced Materials for five years. All the responsibility of the manuscripts regarding plagiarism belongs to the authors.

It is recommended that whenever the author(s) paraphrases or summarizes, the author(s) needs to cite the source in the text and in a list of references at the end of the manuscript. You may look at our Writing Rules
